VinMarket is a Colorado-owned and -operated wine and spirits distribution company based in Denver, Colorado. Led by Matt Guerriero and Charles Bloomfield, the company represents over 600 products from roughly 60 different suppliers. VinMarket is the result of a 2015 merger between Matt and Charles’ previous wine and spirits distribution companies, and the acquisition of a third wholesaler.
What does VinMarket do?
Suppliers choose us to build their brand presence in the state. Like any wholesale business, we are a bridge between producer and retailer. Beyond the logistics of buying, selling and delivery, we help our customers improve profitability through education and training, and structuring of their product mix.
How did VinMarket get started?
Matt: “After 20 years working in the wine business at massive wholesalers and in management for a large-scale California winery, I wanted a new challenge both personally and professionally. Building a business from scratch was a leap of faith to prove that it could be done without someone else’s resources and safety net while still being able to provide suppliers, customers and our employees a quality experience and high level of service.”
Charles: “It was a transition from avocation to vocation, with a dose of serendipity. I was looking to build a business with an international component, and wine was a passion. Shortly after moving to Boulder I met an importer with a small portfolio of Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese wines. I started TerraNova Wines in 2007 to focus on those wines.
How did you meet?
Matt: “I met Charles while standing on a rolling ladder in our contract warehouse during an inventory. What began as a chance meeting led to long conversations about business ethics and philosophy that led to the merger in 2015. It was a great decision and led to a far healthier and a more complete VinMarket.”
Charles: “Our companies both used the same logistics facility. We first met doing inventory, then again at Aspen Food and Wine. While we came from diverse backgrounds, it was clear there was a common ethos – we share a vision and mission and a set of principles that govern what we do.”
OUR VISION:
TO BE THE MOST VALUED WINE AND SPIRITS WHOLESALER IN COLORADO
OUR MISSION:
TO BE TRUSTED IN DELIVERY ON COMMITMENTS TO SUPPLIERS, ACCOUNTS, AND EMPLOYEES
What does trust mean?
Trust starts with the quality of the beverage. We market products we are proud to drink – wines that represent their terroir and spirits that reflect their distillers’ heritage.
Trust also means listening. We earn trust by understanding customers’ problems and bringing solutions to bear on their problems.
Of course, trust means not having to wonder if the check we wrote will clear your bank.
What does the future hold for VinMarket with all the changes happening at the federal and state levels?
Matt: “We are proud to be a Colorado company with a deep commitment to our community of suppliers, customers and employees. We operate VinMarket with a great deal of financial discipline so our employees and suppliers can rely on us to honor our commitments to them and our customers can rely on us to have consistent inventory with fair prices (plus a great representative to service them!). We know that there will be fallout from the massive Distributor and Supplier consolidations and we will be there to provide a great home for like-minded, passionate people.”
Charles: “Our company DNA is one of integrity, innovation, and perseverance. We want to help our suppliers and customers navigate this changing environment. We know how to help stores replace revenue and increase profit, and how to help restaurants build compelling lists that build customer loyalty. We have a portfolio breadth and scale of operation that are relevant to customers of any size, and a track record of building brands for our suppliers.”
