Charles is an entrepreneur and investor with experience spanning hospitality, sales, real estate, industrial safety, IT consulting and private equity. Raised in Europe, he moved to Iowa at 18 to attend Grinnell College. Finding Iowa a culinary challenge, he would return from school breaks with a backpack full of raw milk cheeses, bottles of Fleurie, and “real beer” to share with classmates – a first foray into the import and wholesale business.
After two years at the esteemed Drake Hotel in Chicago, he took the words of Horace Greeley to heart (“Go West, young man”) and moved to Colorado, where he attended the University of Denver, graduating with a MBA in 1988. Charles now lives in Boulder with wife Maria and daughter Nina. His wide-ranging interests include reading, playing guitar or flog (a sport similar to golf), skiing, soccer, gardening, and cooking.
